The date by which children are eligible to attend kindergarten is changing state-wide beginning next school year.  Traditionally, children have been eligible to attend kindergarten as long as they turned five years old by October 1st of that year.  However, based upon a change in Kentucky law which was passed in 2012, beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, children will need to be five years old by August 1st to be eligible for kindergarten.
