Principal's Message

Welcome Back McNabb Families! We are beyond excited for this school year. We know that it will be non traditional in many ways, however, we are hopeful to return to some sense of normalcy and share all of the wonderful things taking place in our school.

As you know, during this time things will look differently. The things that will remain the same will be our focus on academic success, students’ overall social and emotional well being, creating a sense of family, fostering a community, holding our students and staff to the highest expectations and two way communication between home and school.

Many things have changed this year, beginning with building leadership. I am very excited to be the Principal at McNabb. After meeting with every single staff member, several parents and community members over the summer, I believe that McNabb is ready to be the best middle school in the state. We have a plan to build upon the already amazing things happening here and blend with new ideas and processes.

We are welcoming back this year, to our administrative team, Mr. John Preston as Assistant Principal. We are also welcoming Ms. Renee Boots as Interim Assistant Principal.  Both have a vast experience in education and leadership and bring a multitude of skills to our administrative team.

Our counseling office remains the same. We welcome back Mrs. Cheryl Gay, Mrs. Tonia Toy and Mrs. Sheena Bromagen. They are a very knowledgeable group of ladies who continue to put the needs of our students at the forefront of all decisions. In addition to scheduling and day to day counseling needs, they have worked diligently on the re entry of our students and tending to all social and emotional needs. They will be working with our staff, as well, to ensure that students’ mental health is a priority.

Ms. Cartrec Garrett joins us as our Youth Service Center Director. She provides many services for our McNabb families including, but not limited to, assistance for Christmas, school supplies, essential needs, etc. For any youth service center needs, please feel free to reach out to her at 497-8770 ext. 7205.

The overall structure and daily schedule at McNabb will continue to utilize a team approach in which students will stay on their hallway for each class, with the exception of their co-curricular class. This allows for a greater sense of community and relationship building.

We will also be utilizing a 6 period day. Students will attend 4 core classes and 1 co curricular class per semester (2 total for the year) with the exception of our music classes and a few specific classes that are year long. In terms of socially distancing and CDC guidelines, these decisions allow for fewer transitions, less time in the hallway, and fewer personal contacts.  The remaining period will be spent in Power Hour, a time for enrichment and intervention personalized to our individual students' needs.

McNabb’s school day is 8:30 am- 3:30pm. Drop off will begin at 7:55. Tardy bell/first block begins at 8:30. Our incredible food service staff will continue to offer wonderful meals for our students.

As students enter the building, they will grab breakfast and head immediately to their first block class. This is a change from years’ past. Additionally, for afternoon dismissal, students will be dismissed directly from their last period class, in groups to busses and parent pick up.

We know there are so many uncertainties surrounding this school year, but we want you to know that we are here for all of our McNabb families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We want everyone to feel welcome at McNabb Middle School.
