BRANDY HOLLEY
PRINCIPAL

McNabb Families,

We are so excited to welcome you back to the 22-23 school year. McNabb is home to the beautiful transition from elementary to high school. We will continue to focus on developing our students emotionally, socially, and academically. We will hold them to high expectations while providing them with the love and support that they need to navigate through the middle school years.

The new year brings about new faces at McNabb. We are eager to welcome our new Assistant Principal to our team. Ms. Brittany Harris joins us from Lexington. She has a vast amount of experience in the middle school setting. She has been a classroom teacher and guidance counselor. She brings with her experience, enthusiasm, and innovative ideas.

Mrs. Harris will focus on supporting our math and science teachers, behavior support, supporting our guidance counselors in addition to the vast roles of an Assistant Principal. She joins our already seasoned administrative team. Mr. John Preston will return and focus his efforts on supporting our staff, providing behavior and academic support along with his already established roles.

There are some minor transitions taking place in our guidance office. Mrs. Tonia Toy will be our 6th grade guidance counselor. Mrs. Cheryl Gay will transition to 7th grade counselor and Mrs. Sheena Bromagen will be the 8th grade counselor. These outstanding ladies will be a support for your students academically, socially, and emotionally. If you have any questions or needs, please reach out to your child’s grade level counselor.

One of the exciting things happening at McNabb is the change in our master schedule. We have modified our daily schedule that will allow students to take two co-curricular classes. We will continue to provide Power Hour in the middle of the day which allows a focused, student driven time for intervention and enrichment for students.

As a reminder for our parents, we have new cell phone guidelines at McNabb. If students choose to bring a cell phone to school, those phones will be required to be in their locker for the day. Each locker has a student lock provided by the school.  All coaches and extra-curricular sponsors are aware of our new guidelines and will be communicating any changes to the school. Those changes will be communicated to students in a timely fashion. As always, if you have a transportation change or emergency situation, please call the front office. We believe this change in our cell phone use guidelines, will increase student achievement and foster a more productive learning environment. Our students are 1:1 with technology in their core classrooms. Each student has access to a Chromebook for academic use. We appreciate your support. More information will be sent to families regarding this change.

Another exciting new addition to McNabb will be our schoolwide software called Kickboard. Kickboard is a program that monitors student success. In a condensed description, Kickboard is a middle school version of class dojo with many, many additional features. In reality, it is a communication tool that allows parents to see in real time the positives and on rare occasions, the behavior incidences of their child. It provides a communication tool for home and school as well as allowing McNabb to provide school wide incentives. We will be implementing a new school store where students can purchase items using their “McNabb Money” earned through Kickboard. This positive behavior system aligns directly with our school wide expectations and recognizes students for their excellent behaviors. It also allows a time for reflection and reteaching if a student requires redirection. We are thrilled to introduce this program to our students and families and look forward to the successes that this program will provide for McNabb.

McNabb is busting with enthusiasm to welcome back our current students and introduce our new 6th grade class to our incredible school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the office. We look forward to seeing you soon.
