Dear Mapleton Families,
On behalf of the staff at Mapleton Elementary School, I am excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year! As I begin my sixth year as Principal of Mapleton and my 30th year in education, I want to take a moment to let everyone know how blessed I feel to lead such an exemplary school that puts our students at the center of all we do. This is truly a school with a foundation built upon trust and teamwork that unites staff, families, and our entire community in providing amazing learning experiences for our students. It goes without saying that this year will be a time of great flexibility and teamwork as we venture into an adjusted model of education. However, I want to assure each and every one of you that regardless of the adjustments we have to make, our focus is on helping your child achieve their highest potential while uniting our support for each other in some creative and enjoyable ways.
To our students: I want you to know how excited we are to have you at Mapleton Elementary. YOU are the reason we come to work every day, and we believe in your growth and success. We want you to end each learning experience with a smile on your face, looking forward to the next day of learning, and realizing how very special you are.
To our parents and guardians: We value your opinions and look forward to you partnering with us in your child’s education. We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering and assisting us from home and joining our PTO. We will send updated events and information in our school newsletters and will post those on our school webpage and Facebook page. We want you to know that you can contact us anytime with questions or suggestions.
To all others: We want you to know that we realize this year more than ever it takes an entire community coming together to create a successful school for our future leaders. We are very thankful for all the support we have received from our community. Your partnership and support have helped us make the positive growth with our students. As always, we invite the entire community to take part in the excitement of our upcoming 2020-2021 year at Mapleton Elementary, so don’t hesitate to contact us.
We are very excited to welcome Gabby Meadows, special education teacher and our new school nurse Amanda Watkins, R.N. to our team. We are also delighted to have several staff returning that were hired after the start of last year: Jessica Centers and Audrey Smith who are two of our special education assistants.
Our theme this year is “Mapleton’s WILD about YOU! (Jungle theme)” Having a theme that centers on our deep commitment, concern, and love for all of our students was a focus we definitely wanted to emphasize. We believe we must deliberately and passionately teach and model key beliefs so that our students can become the best they can be! At Mapleton, we believe that everyone can lead in some way and positively contribute to our school and community.
This year is going to be amazing as we continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections. As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who is part of our Mapleton family – teachers, students, families, community members, and visitors – are excited about our school! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. My door is ALWAYS open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call or email me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year.
