MCS Non-Resident Enrollment Process

Last Updated: 6/1/2022 7:52 PM

The Montgomery County School District is now accepting applications for non-resident students from other counties and districts for the 2022-2023 school year.  With the passage of HB 563 by the Kentucky Legislature last year, starting July 1, 2022 students are no longer required to live within the district, or county to attend the school of their choice.

The district offers a variety of state and nationally recognized academic, sports, and non-academic programs, such as Advanced Placement, visual and performing arts, career and technical education, Dual Credit with Maysville Community and Technical College, and Morehead State University. Additionally, performance /project-based learning, full-time virtual learning, and numerous clubs and civic organizations are also available to students.

If you are currently not a resident of Montgomery County but would like for your child(ren) to attend a school in Montgomery County during the 2022-2023 school year, please complete the initial registration form to begin the process. Additional information will be required for full enrollment in Montgomery County Schools. Availability due to capacity will be taken by order received.

By July 1, 2022, a board of education shall adopt a nonresident pupil policy to govern the terms under which the district shall allow enrollment of nonresident pupils. Upon allowing nonresident pupil enrollment, the policy shall allow nonresident children to be eligible to enroll in any public school located within the district. The policy shall not discriminate between nonresident pupils, but may recognize enrollment capacity, as determined by the local school district.
