Our district has received two literacy grants that will span 2025–2030 to impact our student reading success. While the KyCL25 Grant builds a district-wide foundation, the Read to Achieve (RTA) Grant provides targeted support for reading intervention in all four of our elementary schools.
Together, these initiatives ensure every student has access to High-Quality Instructional Resources (HQIR) and High-Quality Professional Learning (HQPL).
New Resources in Action
From our youngest learners to our high school seniors, we are investing in primary resources:
- Birth – Age 5: Partnering with 7 local childcare centers using Creative Curriculum and ReadyRosie to build early reading foundations.
- Grades 4–5: Implementing Wonders to align our upper elementary literacy resources.
- Grades 6–12: Using HMH Into Literature and providing Read 180 intervention for grades 6–8.
Expert Support & Planning
- Professional Learning: Our 6th–12th grade educators are working with Liz Prather (Kids 1st) to master these new instructional tools and strategies.
- District Self-Assessment: Fall 2025, a K–12 team of educators completed a literacy self-assessment using the KDE Literacy Framework to identify our strengths and growth areas.
*The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the purchase of Wonders for grades K-3 for the 26-27 SY*
The Road Ahead
These steps are all key pieces of our new Comprehensive Literacy Plan. Stay tuned—over the next few months, we will share specific components of this "North Star" plan that will guide Montgomery County students toward lifelong literacy success.
